For theatre buffs in the Valley, Malpi’s annual play has become something of a must-attend event, and this year’s edition featured rendition—Aladdin: the Musical—marks the twelfth year of the school’s event.
Directed by Richard Moktan and performed by the students of class 9 and 10, the play is an adaptation of the famous tale featured in the classic Arabian Nights. Prior to this, Malpi performed plays like The Sound of Music, Siddhartha Birth of Dream, Fiddler on the Roof and Lion King, among others.
Sayan Prajapati as Aladdin and Samragyi Rayamajhi as Jasmine, with their crackling chemistry, enthralled the audience. But the one who stole the show, with effortless ease, was Ashraya Kansakar, playing Iago, the loud parrot and Jaffar’s accomplice.
And Sandesh Gauchan, who plays the genie, was simply mesmerising in his role.
Today is the last day the play will be staged, at 1:30 pm.
