Classical music at the Academy
The Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi, played host to an evening of classical music performances yesterday.The Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Ranjit Ray, was the chief guest during the event. At the start of the programme, Ray said he was delighted by Chautari Creation’s effort in bringing high classical music to the audience. He said, “Music, especially classical music, binds Nepal and India together.”
The concert commenced with a 35-minute performance by Nepali tabala maestro Nawaraj Gurung, sahanai player Dhan Gurung and guitar player Anil Dhital. Prem Rana Adhikari, Indira Shrestha and Jonisha Poudel were the other instrumentalists who performed in the concert. They collaborated with the Indian artists to do three instrumental songs.
Chaurasiya started with a 26-minute flute solo. Then Ghate and Chaurasiya collaborated on a playful jugalbandi, which was the show-stopper of the programme.
Chautari Creations, Bafal, has been working for the preservation of Hindustani classical music in Nepal.
