‘Jolene’, a theatrical production exploring love pushed to its most extreme edge, is being staged at Kausi Theatre. Written by Buddhi Pokhrel, and directed by Rishav, the play is scheduled from July 24 to August 14.

The play revolves around Mira, a housewife whose sense of self is inseparable from her husband, Madhav. Her devotion to him is total until the revelation of Madhav's affair with Jolene awakens something dark and dangerous beneath their ordinary domestic life.

Transitioning from filmmaking to theatre, Rishav’s experiments with blending melodrama, tragedy, musical theatre and horror. “It is unconventional in many ways,” he says. “In a camera’s absence, the experience is new, but not so strange as the frames I visualise for a film used to ultimately become like that of a theatre.”

Through song and dance, the play exposes the twisted logic beneath a crime: exaggerating, glorifying, vilifying, and mocking the characters' inner lives, giving voice to everything that remains unspoken.
