On Thursday, Film Bazaar, the largest South Asian film market, announced 20 films to be made in 15 languages from 11 different countries across the globe. And among those selected films is a Nepali feature film, ‘My Share of Sky’, a Gauthali Entertainment Pvt Ltd production.
“‘My Share of Sky’ is my tribute to mothers and daughters, those who struggle to understand and accept each other whilst desperately trying to find their places in a patriarchal world that benefits from long-sustained, systematic oppression,” says Sahara Sharma, director of the film.
Created and organised by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Film Bazaar has evolved into South Asia’s global film market with increased national and international participation. Over the years, renowned films like ‘Lunch Box’, ‘Margarita With A Straw’, ‘Ship of Theseus’, ‘Titli’, ‘Court’, ‘Miss Lovely’, and ‘Dum Lagake Haisha’ have featured in one or more programmes of the Bazaar.
“As a platform, Film Bazaar is not new to us,” says Abhimanyu Dixit, the film's producer. “Gauthali Entertainment’s ‘Miss Bardiya’, then in post-production, was also officially selected in the Viewing Room section of Film Bazaar in 2016. This time, we applied during the script development stage, hoping to interest investors, co-producers, distributors, and sales agents to be a part of the film,” says Dixit.
Sahara Sharma, the film's director, also wrote the film, and it will be co-produced by Abhimanyu Dixit and Reecha Sharma. The shooting for the film is scheduled to begin next year.
