Devotees throng temple on Janai Purnima
Janai Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Shrawan.
Post Report
Hindu devotees across the country are celebrating Janai Purnima with much fanfare on Monday.
Every year, Janai Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Shrawan.
The ‘Taghadharis’, bearer of the holy thread called Janai, take a bath in the nearest river or pond early in the morning and change the janai given by their priest.
Devotees throng Pashupatinath temple complex, Ashok Binayak temple at Basantapur, Kumbheshwor temple at Banglamukhi in Lalitpur, banks of Bagmati river and temples across the country including Kathmandu valley since early morning.
There is a religious belief that if the tagadhari wears the yajnopavit (sacred thread) and Raksha sutra (a thread tied on the wrist) by the guru purohit, then they will get protection from negative elements.
Here are some photos of the celebration captured by post photojournalists Deepak Kc and Safal Prakash Shrestha in Pashupatinath and Banglamukhi temple.
