Writers, poets, artists, intellectuals and citizens protest against House dissolution
Campaigners appeal to all who believe in democratic principles to join the resistance.Post Report
Hundreds of people from various walks of life gathered at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Saturday to protest against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s move of dissolving the House of Representatives.
The protesters included intellectuals, writers, poets and artists as well as members of the general public.
After finding himself concerned in his Nepal Communist Party, Oli on Sunday dissolved the House, in a move that has been described by many as unconstitutional. The Nepal Communist Party has since split into two, with one faction led by Oli and the other by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The campaigners, who had gathered under the banner of “broad citizens’ movement”, have appealed to all who believe in democratic principles to join the resistance.
Here are some pictures of the protest by Post photographer Keshav Thapa.
