EPG wraps up work with joint report

Members from both sides informed about the completion of the meeting and issuance of a joint report. The ninth meeting began on Friday and concluded on its scheduled day on Saturday.
Participants of the meeting said the amendments made in the meeting was in line to Nepal’s likeness. The contents of the joint report, however, will not be made public anytime soon.
Bhekh Bhadaur Thapa, coordinator of the Nepali side of the EPG, said the report will be submitted to the prime minister after following necessary processes.
Following the completion of the report, the eight EPG members will now submit it to their governments for implementation. In the past meetings, the Nepali side presented facts arguing for the need to review the 1950 Treaty calling it outdated and impractical. The Nepali side has pitched for revising articles 2, 5, 6 and 7 of the treaty. Both sides have agreed to suggest the governments of Nepal and India replacement of the 1950 Treaty by a new one.
