Dahal urged to revamp party
Central Committee members of the UCPN (Maoist) have called on party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to take urgent measures to transform the party.
Central Committee members of the UCPN (Maoist) have called on party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to take urgent measures to transform the party.
Speaking at the ongoing CC meet, the Maoist leaders said on Saturday that Dahal in his political document had failed to clearly articulate party’s ideological position and that it would take party nowhere. Despite party’s organisational structures going dysfunctional, no measures have been taken to rejuvenate them, the leaders said.
Last week, party Chairman Dahal presented his political document in which, among other things, he had also proposed that party organisations should be revived. Central Committee member Hem Raj Bhandari on Saturday presented a separate document, expressing dissatisfaction with Dahal’s political paper.
“The chairman’s document has failed to identify party’s ‘principal enemy’, which means he is not clear about party’s ideological position,” said Bhandari. He demanded that the party should declare India the “principal enemy”.
“We should be clear about the major contradiction with India,” Bhandari told the Post. According to party Spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma, Bhandari registered a separate political document, stating that the party should “take a strong line against India’s interference”.
Another CC member Dhruba Parajuli said the party leadership also failed to implement the reports submitted by various commissions in the past regarding implementation of the code of conduct and investigation into properties of party leaders and cadres. He demanded action against those involved in corruption in the Maoist cantonments. “If the chairman wants to revive party orgnanisations, the party should initiate action against the leaders who were involved in corruption,” said Parajuli.
He also objected to the way the ministers were selected for the incumbent government. “Leaders were selected for the ministerial posts on the basis of their personal links, not on merits basis,” he added.
Gopal Kiranti, also a CC member, said the party should address the demands of Madhesi, Dalit, Janajati and other marginalised communities, which would help in reviving party organisations. He suggested that the party should also revive its ethnic structures across the country.
Other CC members who spoke during Saturday’s meeting called for ending nepotism in the party. They said that a handful of leaders in the party were giving wrong advices to Dahal, which was creating lot of problems in the party.
Kiranti, Janardan Sharma, Ashok Mandal, Ashok Jaisawal, Keshav Nepal, Hemraj Bhandari, Kali Bahadur Malla, Ram Chandra Mandal, Dhurba Thapa and Lila Thapa also aired their views on Dahal’s document.
