A meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) standing committee (SC) has decided to field party leader Nanda Kishor Pun for the post of Vice President.

The meeting held at UCPN (M) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s in Lazimpat on Friday decided on the candidacy of Pun.

Following the UCPN (M) SC meeting, a meeting of High Level Political Coordination Committee (HLPCC) is underway at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. Today’s meet will finalise the name of the Vice President candidate from the ruling party coalition.

The UCPN (M) held its SC meeting after Thursday’s HLPCC meeting where various leaders demanded that a Madhesi or Tharu candidate should be fielded for the post of Vice President.

As per the time table published by the Parliament, the vying candidates should file their nominations until today followed by the election on Saturday.
