Secularism shouldn't be included in statute: NC leader Koirala
Nepali Congress central committee member and lawmaker Shashank Koirala has said that the phrase 'secularism' should not be enshrined in the constitution.
Nepali Congress central committee member and lawmaker Shashank Koirala has said that the phrase 'secularism' should not be enshrined in the constitution.
"The term secularism has negative connotation. So, it should be replaced," he added.
Koriala added that the constitution should ensure everyone's right to follow their religions adding that NC believes on religious freedom.
He reasoned that many Nepalis are feeling sad for writing secularism in the constitution and added the phrase would not be included in the new constitution.
Releasing a book 'BP Koirala Byekti Ek Ayam Anek' written by Prof Kul Prasad Koirala and Dhrubalal Pandey here on Thursday, he urged all to remain cautious as conspiracies were being hatched against nationality by raising ethnic issues.
As NC is a socialist political party, it never engages in ethnic politics, he said.
On the occasion, Prof Koirala— the Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University— said that political thoughts and literary talents of BP Koirala are talked about in Nepal and abroad.
The book incorporates political and literary dimensions of BP.
Commenting on the book, Prof Yagya Adhikari and Ganesh Ghimire said that the book has highlighted the contributions of BP in the country's politics that are still relevant at present.
