Nepali rider in UK raffles his bike to help quake victims
One Nepali citizen living in UK has raffled his Ducati bike and helped the earthquake-affected people in Nepal.Ekantipur Report
Andeep Chhetry, owner of a popular Nepali restaurant Gurkha Kitchen in Nottingham, UK, organised a lottery and helped the quake-affected people in Dolakha, Kavre, Dhading and Makwanpur districts with the amount of money raised by selling lottery tickets. Chhetry had collected around Rs. 2.5 million in the lottery. He gave away his Ducati 749 sports bike to the lucky winner.
Chhetry said that he was happy to raffle his beloved bike and help the people affected by the devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake of April 25 and its powerful aftershocks.
“I didn’t have money to help the people. So I decided to put my bike on a raffle and raise money,” Chhetry said. “I am glad to raffle my favorite bike and help the victims.”
Chhetry had been living in the UK for the past 22 years and operates his restaurant, Gurkha Kitchen, in Nottingham since five years. He had bought the bike to travel around the world. International broadcaster including the BBC had also reported on his remarkable story.
His restaurant distributed various items, including rice, pulses, oil, mattress, tarpaulin, among others, to some six hundred families in various VDCs of the quake-hit districts.
