A new gallery depicting the lifestyle of Nepalis has been opened to public at the Living Traditions Museum (LTM), in the premises of Changu Narayan Temple.
A new gallery depicting the lifestyle of Nepalis has been opened to public at the Living Traditions Museum (LTM), in the premises of Changu Narayan Temple. The gallery, funded by US Embassy’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) was inaugurated by the United States Ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde on Thursday.
Addressing the inauguration, Bodde said that the new gallery celebrates community history by reflecting mythology, art and heritage. “Visiting this museum can give a
better impression of Nepali life,” he said. In 2011, the embassy provided $95,800 to the LTM to help restore
the Sattals surrounding Changu Narayan Temple. In 2013, the AFCP program again supported LTM through a grant totalling $25,706, which helped protect an important collection of ethnographic objects and establish the museum gallery.
Around four hundred collections of ancient, historical, artistic, religious, archaeological and cultural objects are in display at the museum.
The museum reflects the real lifestyle of Nepal, representing the mountains, hills, plain and ethnographic lifestyle of the Valley. “This has created a new avenue for tourism development in the area,” said Changu Narayan VDC chairman Mohan Bir Shrestha.
The AFCP has supported the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects
and forms of traditional cultural expression in Nepal since 2001.
