Nepal national women’s football team captain and goalkeeper Anjila Tumbapo Subba has agreed to sign for Greek A Division Women’s football club Nees Atromitou for the 2024-25 season.
“I am very excited,” said the 28-year-old Subba, who is the second player from Nepal to play in the European league after star striker Sabitra Bhandari.
Bhandari, who is Nepal’s all time top goal scorer with 53 international goals, currently plays for French Division 1 side En Avant Guingamp Feminines.
“It is everyone’s dream to play in Europe. I have been trying to secure a deal in Europe for two years,” added Subba, who will be playing outside Asia for the first time in her club football career.
Subba played for Pakistani club Masha United in the 2021-2022 season and India’s Sethu FC in the 2023 season.
Before joining Masha, Subba played for Nepal Armed Police Force Club from 2012 to 2022.
Subba, who made her debut for Nepal during the 2014 SAFF Championship in India, captained Nepal to WAFF Women’s Championship final in February this year.
Subba has 28 caps for the country.
The new season of the Greek A-Division women’s league begins on September 29.
Atromitou finished ninth in the league last season with nine wins, six draws and 11 losses in 26 matches.
Nepal’s another national team member Rekha Paudel signed for Abu Dhabi Country Club for the last month, and has already helped her new club to progress to the group stage of AFC Women’s Champions League scoring two goals.
