Stage set for Kantipur Half-Marathon

Kantipur Publications Limited is all set to organise the Kantipur Half-Marathon 2023—one of the premier events of the country—on May 20.
The 11th edition of the half-marathon, which carries the slogan ‘Let’s go green together’, will feature men’s and women’s half-marathon (21.1 km), college run (7 km), corporate run (5 km) and wheelchair race (3 km). College run has been added to the event for the first time. Students above 18 years of age will be eligible to participate in this category.

The 21km half-marathon will start from the Central Business Park, the office of Kantipur Publications at Thapathali, and will traverse through Maitighar Mandala, Baneshwar, Tinkune, Koteshwar, Jadibuti, Lokanthali, Ghatthaghar, Thimi, Sallahghari and return via the same route before finishing at the starting point, according to Kantipur’s Half-Marathon race director and athletics head coach, Chandra Gurung.
The winners of the men’s and women’s half-marathon will receive a purse of Rs 100,000 each. The runner-up will earn Rs50,000, while the third-placed, fourth-placed, fifth-placed and sixth-placed runners will get Rs30,000, Rs20,000, Rs10,000 and Rs5,000, respectively.
The winner, runner-up and the third-place finisher in the wheelchair category will receive Rs30,000, Rs20,000 and Rs10,000, respectively.
The players’ registration for the event will close on May 15.
APF Club’s Gopi Chandra Parki and Nepal Police Club’s Rajpura Pachhai are the defending champions of the men’s and women’s Kantipur Half-Marathon.
The first Kantipur Half-Marathon was held on February 19, 2011 to commemorate the 18th anniversary of Kantipur Publications.
