Regmi, Shah win singles titles
Aja Regmi and Rayana Shah won the age-group singles titles of the Kesha-JTI Junior Open Lawn Tennis Championships on Thursday.
Aja Regmi and Rayana Shah won the age-group singles titles of the Kesha-JTI Junior Open Lawn Tennis Championships on Thursday.
Regmi got the better of Ayesha Gurung 4-1, 4-1 in the girls’ U-9 final, while Shah saw off Ishashree Shah 8-4 to get hold of girls’ U-10 singles championship. Mayanka Rana rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over her younger twin sister Mahika to clinch the Under-16 girls’ single title.
Saharsha Chand, Swaraj KC, Prashant Basnet and Adit Subedi advanced to the boys’ U-14 semi-finals. Chand
beat Piyush Singh 6-2, 6-3, KC battled to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3
win over Avinab Acharya, Basnet eased past Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya 6-4, 6-1 and Subedi dispatched Binay Batas 6-1, 6-1.
In the girls’ doubles semi-finals, Rana sisters Mayanka and Mahika teamed up to defeated Bibhuti Karki
and Bijisha Shrestha 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, while Ira Rawat and Avilasha Bista inflicted a double bagel on Oshin Rai and Sukum Limbu.
Ranav Singh and Arav Hada set the boys’ U-9 singles title match. Singh crushed Pranab Manandhar 4-0, 4-0, and Hada beat Rijan Shrestha 4-2, 4-1 in the semi-finals. Ira Rawat and Ani Mathema also set up the girls’ U-14 singles title showdown. Rawat dispatched Catharine Mathema 6-4, 6-4 and Mathema got the better of Prerana Koirala 6-0, 6-4 in the semi-finals.
Arav Hada advanced to the boys’ U-10 singles final after eliminating Aryan Giri in the semi-finals. Hada won the match 8-4 and will meet Aki Juben Rawat, who got the walkover win from Aditya Subedi, in the final.
Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya will take on Adit Subedi for the boys’ Under-12 singles title.
