National League to resume from Sept 4
The National League Football Tournament, which was halted after the April 25 Great Quake, is set for September 4 resumption, informed the football governing body on Thursday.After consultation with the participating club officials, the All Nepal Football Association had (Anfa) decided to resume the ambitious ‘home and away’ League. All the 40 matches left in the nine-team League will be completed by October 17. The meeting also decided to give validity to the players registered in the club till the completion of the League. Anfa President Ganesh Thapa requested the clubs to join hands with the football governing body in completing the league successfully.
“It (National League) is a great start and we are confident that this will help a great deal in developing football in the country. The earthquake on April 25 and the untimely demise of acting president Lalit Krishna Shrestha has dealt a huge blow to the football fraternity. I would like to request for a better coordination to make league a success,” Anfa quoted Thapa in its website.
Jhapa XI lead the tournament standings with 16 points from eight matches. When the 7.9M earthquake left Nepal devastated on April 25, Jhapa were playing away to Morang, winning the match 5-1. Nepal Armed Police Force Club, who are second in the table with 14 points from seven matches, Tribhuvan Army, Three Star, Manang Marshyangdi, Nepal Police, Far-western and Lumbini FC are other teams in the National League. The eventual champions will recieve Rs 10 million as prize money.
