No 1 Shrestha stays unbeaten
Top seeds Nabita Shrestha and Rabina Maharjan of Nepal Police Club (NPC) remained unbeaten after the second day of the first Kala Bohora Memorial National Open Table TennisIn the women’s singles held at the National Table Tennis Training Centre, Shrestha and Maharjan stretched their winning streak to six matches. Another NPC player Alina Maharjan has five victories and one defeat.
Swechhya Nembang of NPC has four wins and two losses, while her clubmate Erika Maharjan has four victories and one loss. Kajol Rauniyar of Kaski and Selisha Khadgi of Nepal APF Club have three each victories and as many defeats.
In the men’s singles, NPC duo of Deep Saun and Amar Lal Malla along with Purushottam Bajracharya of APF have won their sixth match in a row. Chandan Shahi of APF has five wins and one loss with NPC’s Mani Kumar Lama winning four and losing two matches. Another NPC player Rakesh Maharjan has three victory and as many losses.
In the junior girls’ singles, Sonu Thapa Magar leads the pack with six straight victories. Dikshya Tamang of Lalitpur and Dikshya Dahal of Sunsari have five wins each. Syantu Shrestha of Tribhuvan Army Club and Karan Rai of Morang have won all their opening first six matches.
The tournament is the highest cash prize tournament in Nepali table tennis history where the champions in both senior categories will get Rs 60,000.
The first and second runners-up will take home Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000 apiece. The top three finishers in junior categories will get Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 6,000.
