Khadka slams century
Skipper Paras Khadka continued his fine form, blasting an unbeaten century to lead Nepal to a seven-wicket victory over Eastern Invitational XI in their third and final warm-up match
At the Willowmore Park, Eastern team were dismissed for 256 in 48.3 overs before Khadka’s scintillating knock guided Nepal to 258-3 in 46.1 overs. Khadka finished unbeaten on 123 off 114 balls with 15 fours and two sixes.
Nepal lost opener Naresh Budhayer (three) cheaply before Subash Khakurel and Gyanendra Malla offered a brief resistance with a 51-run stand. Khakurel was out for a 40-ball 32.
Khadka then stepped in and along with Malla rebuilt the Nepali innings with a 134-run stand for the third wicket. The stand ended with the dismissal of Malla (53). However, with Khadka looking rock solid at the other end, Nepal needed just 66 runs from 78 balls with seven wickets in hand.
Khadka continued his onslaught and completed his century off just 96 balls. New-man Sharad Vesawkar served as a calm ally finishing the match with a six. Vesawkar scored 21 off 28 balls.
Earlier, Nepal reduced the local side to 116-6 at one stage but their lower middle and tailenders managed to put on a challenging total. Khadka also shone with the ball taking 3-36 from seven overs. Sompal Kami, Karan KC and Shakti Gauchan also picked up two wickets each with Basanta Regmi taking one.
Khadka was also the star performer for Nepal when they defeated Mpumalaga club by 64 runs in the second warm-up on Sunday. Khadka had hammered 79 runs in the victory. Karan KC had taken 5-48 against Mpumalaga.
Nepal, who opened the preparation tour of South Africa with a defeat against Eastern Academy Team on January 9, will now leave for Namibia where they will compete in the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 slated for January 17-24.
