Nepal, who are ranked 75 places below the 91st ranked Iraq, proved no match for the former Asian Games winners at the Incheon Football ground in South Korea. In a one-sided match, Bonyan Bashar Resan opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Younis Mahmoud doubled their lead in the first minute of three minutes of injury time. Iraq added two more goals in the second half, the first of which was an own goal from defender Rohit Chand in the 86th minute. Ail Bahjat completed the rout adding the fourth in the first minute of second half injury time.
Football kicked off prior to the official opening ceremony slated for September 19. Nepal play their next Group stage matches against Kuwait on Thursday and Japan on September 21.
