Khanal, Gurung in second round
Pranab Khanal of St Xaviers and Nabin Gurung of Shree Dharmasthali Pokhara entered the U-16 boys’ singles second round of the eighth LA/JTI Inter-school Junior Open Tennis
Khanal defeated Bipin Thapa of hosts Little Angels’ 6-, 6-3, while Gurung earned a walkover win from Ivanhoe Lissanevitch. Khanal also made it to the second round of U-14 along with Anish Bade of KU High School, Saurav Raj Pandey of St Xaviers, Rahul Singh of Kasthamandap, Sahil Dip, Mohit Tenguria and Avinabh Acharya of LA.
Ira Raut of Pennwood progressed to the next round in the U-16 girls’ singles with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory over Laxmi BK of Bistare Foundation. Medhavi Giri and Dibyashri Rana of Ullens along with Slesha Pradhan and Karuna Gauchan of Rato Bangala reached the U-14 girls’ singles second round.
Meanwhile, Tenguria also combined with Ridesh Rawal to hand LA a place in the U-14 boys doubles semi-finals. The duo defeated schoolmates Manju Pariyar and Prasiddha Panjiyar 6-2, 6-3. Another LA pair of Sahil Dip and Pemba Sherpa also made it to the last four defeating schoolmates Ashutosh Tiwar and Bibek Joshi 6-2, 6-4. Saurav Raj Pandey and Basu of St Xaviers also made it through.
Sampukhang Rai of St Paul, Aarav Samrat Hada of St Xaviers, Utsav Khadka of LA, Ivyak Joshi, Sarwartha Pradhan and Saharsha Parajuli reached the U-10 boys’ single second round. Nima Rokaya of LA, Sayisha Joshi of Rato Bangala, Nimanshu Ghimire of Kendriya Vidhyalaya and Sapana Rai of Bistare Foundation won their respective U-12 girls’ singles games.
Grijesh Man Shrestha of Kathmandu International Studies Centre, Adita Subedi of Eros International, Aryan Giri of Ullens, Swaraj KC of LA, Aadit Subedi of St Xaviers, Saharsha Chand and Rahul Singh registered victory in the U-12 boys singles.
