A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his father and a neighbour with a hoe in ward 2 of Sunwal Municipality in Nawalparasi West, police said on Friday.

According to the District Police Office, Nawalparasi West Khemraj Tharu allegedly attacked and killed his 50-year-old father, Jayaram Tharu and 70-year-old neighbour, Buddhanath Dhakikar, following a domestic dispute.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Biradatta Panta, the office’s spokesperson, said Buddhanath was attacked while trying to rescue Jayaram after he was assaulted.

“The initial investigation shows the suspect is a drug addict and had recently returned home from a rehabilitation centre,” said DSP Pant. “After attacking his father, his mother called for help. When the neighbour came to intervene, he too was fatally attacked.”

Police arrested Khemraj while he was roaming around the village with the hoe, allegedly spreading fear among locals.
