Muslim scholar arrested for polygamy with minor girl

A Muslim scholar teaching at a mosque in Khajura rural municipality has been arrested on the charge of polygamy with a minor girl student.
Police have arrested 31-year-old scholar Atiq Ahmed Khan, who taught Urdu and Arabic to students at Bilali Masjid situated at Khajura Rural Municipality-8, Chamakdarpur, Banke.
The police deployed from the Area Police Office, Dhanauli, arrested him after his wife Mantasa Khatun lodged a complaint against him on charges of polygamy and child marriage.
Khan had fled to India with his second wife, a 14-year-old student at the mosque he taught. Khan, a father of two children from his first marriage, has a child from his second marriage.
Ashok Malla, in charge of the Area Police Office, said that the Banke district court has extended the remand for five days for investigation.
