A landslide triggered by continuous rainfall destroyed a house in Chihane Khola, ward 3 of Doramba Shailung Rural Municipality, and left five other houses at high risk, local officials said.
The landslide, which occurred around midnight on Sunday, completely damaged the house of local resident Jhagar Singh Basnet and buried a cowshed, killing a cow and a calf, said ward chair Santalal Magar.
Homes belonging to Hari Krishna Basnet, Buddhi Basnet, Cheena Basnet and others are also at serious risk, Magar said, adding that they need to be relocated immediately.
Doramba Shailung Rural Municipality Chair Main Kumar Moktan said the local unit has begun preparations to move the affected families to safer areas. He urged residents of the vulnerable settlement to remain alert, as rainfall continues.
In August last year, a landslide in Lekharka of the same ward killed 10 people.
