Man kills nephew, injures daughter in sickle attack

A man attacked his young daughter and nephew with a sickle before turning the weapon on himself, killing the five-year-old boy and critically injuring the others.
The incident occurred around 10am on Friday in ward 25 of the Bharatpur Sub-metropolitan City-25, Chitwan district.
“Lilaraaj Giri, 42, assaulted his seven-year-old daughter Prabha Giri and five-year-old nephew Sajan Giri using a sickle. He then injured himself with the same weapon,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police DSP Rabindra Khanal.
All three were rushed to the College of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Bharatpur. The boy died around 10:30am. while undergoing treatment, Khanal said.
Giri and his daughter remain in critical condition.
Police said Giri is a former army personnel and is believed to be suffering from mental health problems.
“Preliminary findings suggest he was not in a stable mental state,” said Khanal. “The investigation is ongoing.”
