Makawanpur police have arrested a man with 5.94 kilograms of opium from ward 19 of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City on Sunday morning.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Makawanpur, the suspect has been identified as Baburam Tamang, 25, of ward 11 in Rapti Municipality, Chitwan.
A police team deployed from the Newarpani Area Police Office intercepted a passenger bus, en route to Hetauda from Chitwan along the East-West Highway. Tamang, a passenger on board, was found in possession of the opium hidden inside his bag.
Police recovered three packets of opium weighing 5.94 kilograms. Further investigation is underway, Aryal said.
The remote areas in the western part of Makawanpur district are known hotspots for opium farming, making the district a key transit point in the illegal drug trade. Most Read from Bagmati Province
