Families of Kavre bus accident victims, injured protest demanding compensation

The families of the victims and the injured of the Kavre bus accident that claimed the lives of 18 people on Tuesday, have disrupted public vehicle services that operate from Panauti on Wednesday.
The accident took place at around 6pm yesterday at Sallaphed of Chalal Ganeshthan in the Bethanchok Rural Municipality as the reserved bus, carrying people who had gone to attend a ‘bratabandha’ (coming-of-age) ceremony in Chyalti in the rural municipality, was returning back to Banepa Municipality.
Thirteen people died at the incident site while five others died while undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
The agitated family members obstructed traffic in Thado Bato of Panauti district demanding appropriate compensation to the family of the bereaved.
Discussions are being held between relatives of the victims and the transport operators, informed Sub-Inspector Rupesh Shrestha of the Panauti police.
Private-owned and reserved vehicles are operating, informed Shrestha.
