Udayapur fire kills two as late-night blaze engulfs homes

Two people died in a fire that broke out in Beltar, ward 7 of Chaudandigadhi Municipality in Udayapur early Tuesday.
The fire, which started at around 2:45am, killed 70-year-old Laxmi Narayan Khadka and 30-year-old Pawan Khadka.
Police said the blaze is suspected to have started from an electrical short circuit at Laxmi Narayan’s house in Shantichok, before spreading and destroying the homes of Rabin Kumar Das and Sakaldewa.
Superintendent of Police Rajan Chapagain, chief of the District Police Office, Udayapur, said the victims died after being trapped inside the house while asleep.
Asmita Khadka, who was injured in the incident, is undergoing treatment at the Beltar Municipal Hospital.
The fire was brought under control on Tuesday morning through the joint efforts of fire engines from Triyuga Municipality and Chaudandigadhi Municipality, along with residents and police personnel.
Police said details of the total damage are yet to be ascertained.
