An elderly woman died in a road accident at Birtamod in Jhapa district early Tuesday.

According to the Jhapa District Police Office, the 70-year-old resident of Ratuwamai Municipality-5 died after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road in Birtamod Municipality-5.

Seriously injured from the collision, she was taken to the B&C Hospital for treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries at 9am.

In another accident on the East-West Highway in Kamal Rural Municipality-4 of the Jhapa district, a tipper and a bus collided, injuring 21 passengers on the bus.

Among the injured, three are reported to be in critical condition.

The injured are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Damak, Birtamod, and Biratnagar, according to the District Traffic Police Office.

The vehicle has been impounded by the police and further investigation into the case is underway, police added.
