Six swept away by river in Panchthar

A total of six people went missing in Panchthar district after they were swept away by a flooded Hewa River in Phidim and Phalelung of the district on Saturday night.
The river swollen due to incessant rainfall also damaged physical infrastructures.
Dil Kumar Tamang of Hilihang Rural Municipality-7 and Sanjog Lowa of Phidim Municipality-10, who were deployed at Hewa ‘A’ Hydropower Project, went missing following the flood on Saturday midnight, said Ram Thapa, an employee of the project.
Similarly, one each in Phidim-4 and Phalelung-3 and two people in Phidim-4 went missing in the river, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Khatiwada, Chief of Panchthar District Police Office.
Their identities are yet to be ascertained, police said.
The flood swept away a bridge over Hewa river along the Mechi Highway.
Likewise, Panchthar District Police Office said the flooded river washed away two motorable bridges in Lumangdin and Ghumane of Phalelung Rural Municipality and a suspension bridge over the river.
Police said it has been reported that the river swept away houses in wards 3 and 2 of Yangwarak Rural Municipality, but details are yet to be known.
