Closed-door session of Congress’ 15th general convention begins

The Nepali Congress began the closed-door session of its 15th General Convention on Monday after its Central Working Committee approved the agenda for discussion.
Delegates have been divided into three groups for the session: Mountain, Hill and Tarai-Madhes.
The Mountain hall has 2,331 delegates, including 1,117 from Koshi province, 715 from Gandaki province and 299 from Karnali province.
The Hill hall has 2,226 delegates, including 1,217 from Bagmati province and 1,009 from Lumbini province.
The Tarai-Madhes hall has 2,376 delegates, comprising 1,256 from Madhes province, 650 from Sudurpaschim province, 245 from the party’s overseas chapters and 225 from its sister organisations.
According to the Nepali Congress, delegates will discuss the political report presented by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, the party’s statute and organisational proposals presented by general secretary Pradip Paudel, and a contemporary issues proposal presented by vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma, among other matters.
Before the closed-door session began, party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise announced decisions taken by the Central Working Committee, saying Monday’s meeting was the final one of the current Central Working Committee, which was formed through a special general convention.
The meeting approved Thapa’s political proposal, Sharma’s proposal on contemporary issues, and Paudel’s proposals on party operations and amendments to the party statute.
