The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to resend Janardan Sharma as finance minister after the Parliamentary probe panel exonerated him of the charges that he tweaked tax rates.
Though the meeting of the Standing Committee later in the afternoon was scheduled to discuss the issue party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has decided to resend Sharma and has already informed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, according to party sources.
“The chairman has decided to resend Sharma probably after consulting the Standing Committee members,” said Ramesh Malla, chief personal secretary of chairman Dahal. “Most probably he will take the oath by this evening.”
Bhes Raj Adhikari, chief personal secretary of the President, said he has no information yet about the oath of the finance minister.
On Saturday, a Standing Committee member Dev Prasad Gurung had told the Post that there was no trend in his party to discuss selecting the leaders for the ministerial portfolios.
Sharma had resigned on July 6 after the House of Representatives formed an 11-member probe committee to investigate the allegations that he allowed unauthorised persons to make changes in the tax rates on the eve of the May 29 budget speech.
