All the 18 bodies of Sunday’s air crash victims have been identified and handed over to their relatives.
Doctors said that following the autopsies, 11 unidentified corpses were recognised, while many families received the mortal remains on Tuesday.
According to Dr Harihar Wosti of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital’s Forensic Department, postmortem reports reveal most of the victims suffered multiple severe injuries and succumbed to them. “The bodies were burnt making it difficult for us to identify,” said Wosti.
Dr Wosti said family members have come to the contact of TUTH to receive bodies. Most families have taken the bodies of their deceased relatives and the few remaining will take them at their convenience, said Wosti.
The family of the diseased Dane, M Mathiesen, has contacted the Danish Embassy in Kathmandu to receive the body.
Doctors identified the bodies of Rajendra Devkota, Tek Bahadur Mahtara, Nanda Mahtara, D Mahatara, IB Pokhrel, BP Upadhyay, U Tamang, D Neupane, M Mathiesen and Capt Shankhar Shrestha and Co-pilot Rabindra Banjara.
As of Monday, seven bodies including that of Maj Dipak Shrestha, Manav Sejuwal, Barsha Hamal, Sahish Hamal, Dibesh Shahi, Muna Maharjan, and Rajendra Chaulagain were identified.
To facilitate the identification process, the hospital had also handed out ante-mortem forms to the relatives.
On Sunday, a Nepal Airlines plane bound for Jumla crashed at Masine Lek in Khanchikot, Arghankhanchi district, half an hour after takeoff from Pokhara Airport.
