A Nepali migrant worker has been killed in an Iranian missile strike in Kuwait, marking the second Nepali fatality linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Som Kumar Tamang from Terhathum district in eastern Nepal.

According to the Nepali Embassy in Kuwait, Tamang was killed on Thursday, when an Iranian missile struck a building belonging to a Chinese company in northern Kuwait. He had been working in Kuwait as a driver since 2022.

With this death, the number of Nepali migrant workers killed since the conflict escalated in the region has risen to two. The first was Diwas Shrestha from Gorkha district, who was killed in the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that an Iranian strike targeted a building owned by a Chinese company in the country's northern region, killing one worker and causing extensive structural damage.

Ministry spokesperson Saud Al-Atwan said the relevant authorities immediately launched emergency response procedures and coordinated with concerned agencies to manage the situation.

He said the Kuwaiti Armed Forces were carrying out their duties with a high degree of professionalism and were working closely with other state agencies to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security and stability. He added that the safety of Kuwaiti citizens and all residents remained the government's top priority.

The Nepali Embassy in Kuwait said it was coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to complete the necessary formalities and repatriate Tamang's body to Nepal as soon as possible.
