The charred body of a 45-year-old woman missing since Friday was recovered from inside a parked car in Tarakeshwar Municipality-1, Kathmandu, on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmi Rijal, a local resident employed at Sanima Capital Limited, according to the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dilip Ghimire, head of the District Police Range, confirmed that Rijal’s family had filed a missing person report with the police after she left her residence around 7:00 am on Friday with her mobile phone switched off.
Following an extensive search, security personnel located the vehicle—BA E 0410—in Tarakeshwar, where Rijal's burnt body was found inside.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that she may have set herself on fire,” SSP Ghimire said, adding that officers are currently examining all potential angles to determine the precise sequence of events.
Police have dispatched the body to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the case is underway.
