A 30-year-old man who was swept away along with his scooter by the swollen Sim river in Indrasarowar Rural Municipality of Makawanpur four days ago has been found dead, police said.
The victim has been identified as Mahesh Karki of Dhungrebash, Sarlahi, according to police.
The scooter carried away by the floodwaters was recovered on Tuesday. After the water level in the river receded, authorities began excavating the riverbed with a bulldozer on Wednesday afternoon. During the search operation, Karki’s body was found buried under sand about 200 metres downstream from the causeway, an Armed Police Force official based at Khanikhet said.
Karki was swept away on Monday afternoon while travelling from Kathmandu to Hetauda. The flood in Sim river, located below the Kulekhani Dam, carried away his scooter, along with him.
Police were able to identify the scooter owner after the vehicle and its bluebook were found on Tuesday in the river, around 100 metres below the road.
Karki worked as a ride-hailing driver in Kathmandu. The accident occurred while he was returning home.
