Two persons including a police official were injured in an attack on a police officer in Manahari of Makawanpur district.
The incident followed police firing that took place after an attack on a police officer, the police said.
The injured included Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Dil Bahadur Tamang and 19-year-old Sanis Titung of ward 12 of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City. The police have arrested two persons in connection with the incident.
The police said the fire was opened in self-defence after Titung and other youths attacked Assistant Sub Inspector Tamang with a beer bottle, khukuri and axe.
Titung was later injured after being hit on the right side of his abdomen by a bullet fired from a pistol in self-defence.
Both injured are undergoing treatment at Churehill Hospital in Hetauda, according to the District Police Office, Makwanpur.
A police team led by Assistant Sub Inspector Tamang from the Padampokhari Police Post had reached Makari of ward 1 of Manahari Rural Municipality after receiving information by the locals that some youths were taking drugs and quarrelling at the house of an elderly woman.
During interrogation, Titung and other youths attacked Tamang with a beer bottle, axe and khukuri, leaving him injured.
Tamang then fired one round from his pistol in self-defence, the police said. Later on Wednesday night, a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Pushkar Bogati from the District Police Office, Makwanpur reached the incident site and arrested 24-year-old Sanjay Jimba and 35-year-old Ajay Thing of Ramnatar, ward 12 of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City.
Police said those arrested and the injured youth had previously been involved in cases related to drugs, attempted murder and theft.
