A woman who had gone to graze buffaloes in a forest along the Nepal–India border was killed in an elephant attack.
According to police, 40-year-old Balika Puri of Rajapur Municipality–10, Karmohani, died after being attacked by an elephant on Wednesday afternoon. She had gone to graze buffaloes with two other people. Upon seeing the elephant, the other two managed to flee and save their lives.
Devendra Kumar Malla, information officer at the District Police Office, Bardiya, said that a search operation was conducted on Wednesday, but the body could not be found. The body was discovered on Thursday morning after police, forest officials, and residents resumed the search at the incident site, the Division Forest Office, Bardiya, said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Malla said the body was being brought to the hospital for post-mortem examination.
