Mudslides block BP Highway in several sections
Continuous rainfall since October 30 has triggered mudslides at multiple points along the highway.Jyoti Shrestha
Vehicular movement along several sections of the BP Highway has come to a complete halt after heavy rainfall triggered mudslides across various locations, according to the District Police Office, Kavre.
The continuous rainfall since October 30 has caused landslides with heavy mud deposits at Chaukidanda, Dalabesi, Narke, Charsaya Besi and Ghumaune, completely obstructing the highway, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, the information officer at the Kavre police office.
He said the downpour dislodged rocks and mud along different parts of the highway, making the road impassable since Friday morning.
“The rainfall has not stopped, and clearing the debris will take time,” Bista said, adding that the authorities have mobilised personnel but progress has been slow due to the persistent rain.
The police have urged travellers to check the latest road conditions before setting out on the highway.
Authorities expect that resuming normal traffic movement will take several days, depending on weather conditions.
