A discussion was held at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, on Sunday regarding the death of a postpartum woman at KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital.
Tensions flared at the hospital three days ago after Minashree Rai of Khotang died following childbirth.
While the Lalitpur District Police Office stated that Rai died due to excessive bleeding, her family members claimed negligence on the part of the hospital.
Following the incident, relatives and locals vandalised hospital property, prompting police intervention. Superintendent of Police Chakra Raj Joshi of the Lalitpur District Police Office said that police fired 24 rounds of tear gas and used batons to disperse the crowd.
Rai died on Friday. A meeting involving the Chief District Officer, hospital administration, and the deceased’s family members was later held to address the situation.
Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers around the hospital premises to prevent further unrest.
