Traffic along the Narayanghat–Muglin road has come to a standstill after continuous rockfall and landslides near Tuiun Khola from around 1pm on Tuesday.
According to Krishna Acharya, information officer and engineer at the Bharatpur division road office, workers have been unable to begin clearance as rocks continue to tumble. “Although the landslide is not massive, the nonstop rockfall has made it impossible to start the work,” Acharya said, adding that once the rocks stop, the debris could be cleared within half an hour.
By 3:45pm on Tuesday, stones were still falling steadily. The section had only reopened for two-way traffic on Monday evening, after being blocked on Friday by another landslide that took 45 hours to clear.
Officials noted that even after the reopening, intermittent rockfalls from above the road have continued to pose risks.
