President Ramchandra Paudel has appealed to all sides to support the process of holding the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
The statement comes hours after immediate past chief whips of major political parties issued a statement and demanded the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives.
Upon the recommendation of the prime minister of the interim government, Sushila Karki, President Paudel on Friday night dissolved Parliament.
Issuing a statement on Saturday evening, Paudel made an appeal to all concerned to take advantage of “this hard-earned opportunity with wisdom, win the hearts of the people”, and contribute to the successful conduct of the upcoming elections.
In his statement, the President said, “After tremendous efforts during a very difficult, complex, and fearful situation in the country, a peaceful resolution has been found. The constitution has been preserved, the parliamentary system has been upheld, and the federal democratic republic remains intact.
“The people have been given the opportunity to move forward on the path of a more advanced democracy by holding the House of Representatives election within six months.
“Therefore, I sincerely appeal to all sides to make good use of this hard-earned opportunity with wisdom, to win the hearts of the people, to exercise self-restraint, and to cooperate in ensuring the successful conduct of the election scheduled for March 5, 2026.”
President Paudel appointed former chief justice Karki as the head of the interim government on Friday after days-long negotiations with the representatives of the Gen Z movement and various other stakeholders reached an agreement to form the new government under her leadership.
