Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an all-party meeting after security forces used force against Gen Z protesters, escalating the agitation.
Oli issued a statement on Tuesday announcing the meeting for 6pm, though the venue was not specified. He said dialogue was the way to resolve the crisis.
“I am saddened by Monday’s protests in the capital and across the country and the subsequent incidents,” he said. “No form of violence serves the nation’s interest, and we must pursue a peaceful and dialogue-based solution.”
Oli said he was in talks with all relevant parties to assess the situation and reach a meaningful conclusion.
The protests, now in the second day, have spread beyond Kathmandu, with demonstrators targeting political leaders’ residences and party offices. Clashes between protesters and police have further fuelled tensions nationwide.
