Laxman Paswan, the key suspect in the murder of 30-year-old Rubi Kumari Sah, has died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment for severe burn injuries sustained during a suicide attempt.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Karki, spokesperson of Rautahat district police, Paswan had recorded a nine-minute video confessing to the murder. Killed on Saturday, Sah’s body was discovered in a discarded suitcase in Gaur.
The police said that Laxman’s video post included a complex history between the victim and perpetrator, spanning 14 years since Paswan first abducted a 16-year-old Rubi to India in 2012.
Though initially charged with abduction and human trafficking, Paswan was released on bail after 17 days in custody and eventually acquitted in 2014.
“Paswan’s video confession detailed his alleged murder of Sah following an emotional conversation at his rented room in Gaur,” Karki said.
“We’re investigating all angles, including their history, though no single motive has been established,” Karki stated.
Police identified Paswan as the prime suspect after finding Sah’s slippers in his rented room and tracking his digital footprint to India following the murder.
Locals had spotted Paswan in a severely burnt condition and alerted the police. He was immediately taken to Better Nepal Multispeciality Hospital in Garuda for initial treatment.
