Body of a woman was found inside a suitcase in Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat district, on Sunday morning.

Police said the suitcase had been spotted late Saturday night near Mudwalwa Gate in ward 9 of Gaur Municipality. Suspecting it to be a suspicious object, officers did not open it immediately.

On Sunday morning, the suitcase was opened and the body of 26-year-old Rubi Kumari of ward 6 of Madhav Narayan Municipality was recovered, said Police Inspector Rudra Kandel.

“Relatives have confirmed the identity of the body. An investigation is underway, and we are reviewing CCTV footage from the area,” Kandel said, adding that it was yet to be established who left the suitcase there.

According to police, the suitcase had been tied with a rope when it was found abandoned by the roadside.
