The Rapti Highway has remained obstructed since Sunday evening following multiple landslides near Chorkhola in ward 3 of Kapurkot Rural Municipality.
According to Police Inspector Resham Khatri of the District Police Office, Salyan, landslides occurred at two to three locations, blocking the road around 6pm on Sunday. He said efforts to remove debris using an excavator have been underway since Monday morning, but the road remains closed.
Over a dozen passenger vehicles are stranded on the road. Khatri said that a large landslide struck the area, and overnight clearing was impossible, leading to a prolonged obstruction of the highway.
He said it may take over an hour to clear the debris fully. Khatri also warned that frequent landslides in the Chorkhola area during the monsoon have made travel hazardous and urged travellers to proceed cautiously.
