A married man and a woman were found hanging from the same tree in Pathari Shanishchare Municipality-5, Morang, on Tuesday morning, according to local police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Bikram Dahal of the Area Police Office, Pathari, confirmed that the bodies were found on a branch of a yellow snake tree near the Bakraha River, approximately one kilometre south of the man’s residence.
The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Ajay Tudu of Shanishchare-5, Pathari and 22-year-old Jubamuni Hasda of Katahari Rural Municipality-6, Morang. Both were married to other partners.
According to police reports, Jubamuni’s husband, Kancha Tudu, is working abroad, while Ajay is the father of two children aged four and two. Jubamuni also has a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
Initial investigations suggest that Ajay brought Jubamuni to his home on Sunday night. Family sources reported that the two had dinner at Ajay’s residence before leaving together later that night.
Local residents discovered the bodies around 10:30 am on Tuesday and immediately notified the authorities.
DSP Dahal indicated that preliminary evidence points to a romantic relationship between the two. “Based on their contact history and frequent visits, it appears they may have been in a relationship,” he said.
Police suspect the pair may have died by suicide following issues in their relationship. “The nature of the scene suggests a mutual decision to end their lives. However, the exact circumstances will only be revealed after a thorough investigation,” DSP Dahal added.
Further investigations are underway.
