A dry landslide has blocked the Khachha section of the Karnali Corridor in Humla, halting transportation since 8am on Sunday.
Passengers and goods carriers travelling to and from Humla’s district headquarters and Sarkegad are stuck at the place, Police Head Constable Raj Bahadur Bista of the Balkuna temporary police post said. Many travellers have been forced to walk.
Efforts to clear the debris with an excavator are underway, but a broken truck has added difficulty in reopening the road. The landslide has buried about 20 metres of road in Khachha, ward 1 of Sarkegad Rural Municipality.
Police and road division officials are working to reopen the route. Three minibuses, five mini-trucks, and three microbuses heading to Sarkegad from Surkhet, along with a mini-truck and a bus travelling in the opposite direction, remain stranded.
