The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has provided funding of US$161,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Nepal for a project aimed at linking climate risk financing and insurance with shock-responsive social protection.
The project, titled “Linking climate risk financing and insurance (CDRFI) with shock responsive social protection (SRSP)", seeks to strengthen Nepal’s capacity to respond to natural disasters and protect vulnerable communities from the impacts of floods, landslides, and other hazards, the Embassy of France in Kathmandu said.
According to the embassy, the funding is part of a larger contribution from France to the WFP's Social Protection Trust Fund, hosted at the agency’s headquarters in Rome.
“The initiative will be implemented in collaboration with Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and other local stakeholders, targeting regions prone to recurring floods and landslides,” the press release issued by the Embassy said.
By linking disaster risk funds with Nepal’s social protection systems, the initiative aims to reduce the economic and social impacts of future disasters on both people and the country.
France’s support is part of its broader commitment to helping vulnerable nations address climate risks and enhance resilience against natural disasters, the release said.
