The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Monday requested the agencies concerned to investigate and take action against sidhakura.com, a Kathmandu-based news website, for publishing misleading content.
Issuing a statement, the anti-graft body said its attention has been drawn to the news.
The news website published a series of audio-video content claiming that the chairpersons of two leading media houses were part of a meeting with the incumbent and former Supreme Court justices and senior advocates to dismiss over 400 corruption cases filed by the anti-graft body in the court.
“A serious attention of the commission has been drawn on the news that mentioned instructing a member of a sting operation team of the commission to change his statement and the mentioning of the commission,” said Narahari Ghimire, CIAA spokesperson in a statement.
“The commission is not involved in any activities other than carrying out actions as per the verdict issued by the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court and investigating and prosecuting complaints within its jurisdiction,” said CIAA.
“The commission requests the relevant agencies to investigate and take action as per the law for publishing the misleading content.”
On Sunday, the apex court initiated a suo moto contempt of court case against the publisher and editor of the news portal publishing defamatory content against one of the justices of the court.
Amid criticism over the content, the Press Council on Friday had directed the news website to take down the ‘malicious and fabricated’ content and present a written clarification for broadcasting it. But its management refused to abide by the directive. It instead published another episode on Saturday.
The news website took down all the related content on Monday. All contents have been suspended as the study and investigation process have moved ahead as per a letter from the Press Council Nepal, the news website said.
