Traffic on the Nagma-Gamgadhi road, the main route to Rara Lake, a major tourist destination in Karnali, has come to a standstill due to a landslide.
The landslide occurred around 8 am near Bagbazar in ward 7 of Hima Rural Municipality, Jumla, on Tuesday. The road remains blocked, leaving vehicles stranded that were brought by tourists, either returning from Gamgadhi or heading to Rara Lake.
The Road Division Office said efforts to clear the debris are underway.
Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary, chief of the Road Division Office, said all necessary equipment and personnel have been deployed. “We are working to reopen the road as quickly as possible,” he said. “All teams are mobilised, and debris removal is already underway.”
Passengers grew frustrated after the road remained closed for more than three hours. While local residents and road staff cleared smaller landslides, heavy machinery is being used to remove the larger debris.
